Boca Raton’s very own version of the Hollywood Walk of Fame is turning 30, and nominations are now open.

The Walk of Recognition, located at Mizner Plaza in Royal Palm Place and organized by the Boca Raton Historical Society, honors people who have made a difference in the city with a granite star. These stars represent changemakers in education, health care, civic service, arts and culture, business, philanthropy, and more.

The tradition was started in 1997 by Marta Batmasian, who has sponsored the Walk of Recognition ever since. Last year, she was surprised with her very own star by the Boca Raton Historical Society. A group of luminaries of the 2000s were also given a joint plaque for their contributions.

“The Walk of Recognition has always been about honoring those who shape our city’s story,” Olivia Hollaus, executive director of the Boca Raton Historical Society, said in a press statement. “As we celebrate 30 years of this remarkable tradition, we’re deeply grateful to Marta Batmasian for the vision that started it all.”

Nominations for honorees are open now through Sept. 15; you can make your nominations here

The Walk of Recognition event will be Nov. 4 at The Addison. Tickets are $125 and available at bocahistory.org or by calling 561/395-6766, ext. 100.
