South Florida’s Costilo clan-Big Al, Adam and Brad-who are to locals lusting after an authentic Philly cheesesteak what the Liberty Bell is to the City of Brotherly Love, have just opened their third Big Al’s Steaks (1000 N. Congress Ave., 561/424-0089) in Boynton Beach.
The new eatery is just the start of a planned expansion that includes a corporate-owned Big Al’s set to debut in January of next year at Legacy Place in Palm Beach Gardens, followed by 10 more franchised Big Al’s planned to pop up all over South Florida.
At 1,700 square feet it’s the largest of the three, and features more indoor and outdoor seating, a wall-sized mural of the Big Al’s logo, and revamped menu that adds kids portions, chicken nuggets and a full pound of french fries smothered in Cheez Whiz and sauteed onions, mushrooms and peppers.
It’s not exactly the diet plate but, hey, you can always have a tofu burger tomorrow.
