Last night was Buddha Sky Bar’s grand opening—a couple of months late, but grand nonetheless. The small rooftop lounge is very stylish, has a distinctly what-used-to-be-South-Beach vibe and, last night, a naked lady. Upon whom sushi was being served, a la Kim Cattrall in “Sex In The City.”

I know this was supposed to be outrageous and chic and elegantly decadent, but more than a few of us were confused, to say the least. One of my dining companions said since she wasn’t exactly packed in ice, we might want to refrain from retrieving sushi from her perfect abdomen. Another wondered how enlightened people in 2011 rationalized having a naked woman used as a sideboard.

Still, I think all this was supposed to be fun—and Buddha Sky Bar is indeed fun. There are fresh and inventive sake–tinis, good dim sum, home-brewed soy sauce and plenty of sushi that is not served from a flawless thigh. The service is impeccable, the rooftop view is sublime and the décor is whimsical and stylish. Large oval booths secure the corners of the room, there are intimate seating groups, and a few narrow sushi bars for additional seating. There is even an outdoor chef’s table for that private dinner party.

Suffice to say, there is nothing like this in Delray Beach and so far, the vibe is working.
