Here are a few pieces of news from around the dining and drinking world that can help to make your weekend a bit more flavorful.
- There’s a new foodie film, A Chef’s Voyage, available now on Amazon Prime, Apple TV and iTunes. It’s about American Chef David Kinch, who won an Emmy for another series–The Mind of a Chef–and this one focuses on three French kitchens. Kinch took his team to collaborate with these kitchens, where it was filmed by French director Remi Anfosso. I love food shows, cooking shows and anything about drinks. Only drawback: It makes me hungry and thirsty.
- Wine giant Gallo just purchased Constellation wines for about $810 million. That bought around 30 lower-priced wine labels, including Clos du Bois, Ravenswood and Mark West. Constellation still owns Kim Crawford, Meiomi, Corona beer and Svedka vodka.
- The latest issue of Wine Spectator (Jan. 31-Feb. 28) lists five great whiskies for wine lovers! That’s a wonderful way to rate these, and I will get in line if they come my way. These were listed in Whisky Advocate (sister publication to Spectator) as some of the Top 20. They are: Larceny Barrel Batch B520 (No. 1), straight bourbon, $50; Knob Creek, 12-year-old (No. 2), straight bourbon, $60; Kilbeggan, single pot still (No. 8), $45; Aberfeldy, 18-year-old French red wine cask-finished, Batch 2920 (No. 10), $120; Macallan, 15-year-old double cask (No. 16), $135.
- Note from me: I’m a big fan of Knob Creek, and I’m a big wine drinker, so I know that one is spot on.
