The Cox Science Center and the team at its Marmot Observatory are hosting a solar eclipse viewing on Monday, April 8, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Here in South Florida we won’t be able to see the totality of this cosmic event, but guests will be able to catch a glimpse of the partial eclipse through the observatory’s 10-foot refracting telescope with solar filters (no solar glasses required), the largest publicly available telescope in South Florida. Experts from the Marmot Observatory will also be on hand to answer any space-related questions. The eclipse will begin at 1:48 p.m. and reach its max at 3:30 p.m. before ending at 4:15 p.m. A view through the telescope is included with a general admission ticket and solar viewing glasses are available on a first-come-first-serve basis.

The West Palm Beach Downtown Development Authority will also be hosting an eclipse viewing event from 2-4 p.m. at Salento Coffee at 401 Clematis St. Dr. Steven Schiff of the Astronomical Society of the Palm Beaches will be lending his expertise as well as a telescope fitted with solar filters for save viewing of the eclipse.
