With the school year about to kick off, the Palm Beach County Food Bank (PBCFB) is launching its back-to-school food drive Friday, Aug. 1 so no child goes to class hungry.
The PBCFB’s “One Can, Two Can, Who Can? You Can!” drive calls for nonperishable protein-rich donations to service students in the Palm Beach County School District—the 10th largest school district in the country. Items such as canned beans, fish, chicken, beef, peanut butter, vegetables and fruit are in highest demand. With one in six Palm Beach County children going to school hungry, the food bank is calling on the community to help double its donations from last year’s drive, which was 2,582 pounds.
“Donors will be giving school kids the brain food they need to help promote concentration, immunity and more for classroom performance,” says PBCFB CEO Jamie Kendall. “It gives them and their families hope for a strong start to the school year.”
The food drive runs from Aug. 1-31. Donations can be made at the following locations:
