The Boca Raton Historical Society isn’t waiting until next July to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States of America. Our local history museum has slated a series of events to honor our country’s semiquincentennial (now there’s a good Scrabble find) beginning next month, and continuing all the way through August 2026.

In September, the Schmidt Boca Raton History Museum will begin a series of three monthly Town Hall Talks that delve into the nitty-gritty of the Revolutionary War. The institution selected an ideal historian to explore this subject. Robert Feeney, an archaeologist, educator, re-enactor and historian who serves as the manuscript and archives assistant at FAU’s Wimberly Library, will lead immersive discussions of the following subjects, bringing listeners onto the front lines of the conflict that liberated America:

6 p.m., Sept. 10: “The Redcoats Are Coming”

This discussion places attendees into the barracks of the British side during the war, capturing the soldiers’ mindset, gear, training regimens and more.

6 p.m., Oct. 8: “Continental Soldiers: Washington’s Army in the Revolution”

Feeney brings to life inspiring stories from trials and triumphs of the earliest warriors for American independence.

6 p.m., Nov. 12: “Medicine and Surgery During the Revolutionary War”

Those with a delicate constitution, take heed: Feeney doesn’t hold back in exploring the battlefield surgeries and 18th-century remedies that pioneered American military medicine.

Each talk is $10 for nonmembers or free for Historical Society members, and is organized in conjunction with America250, a nationwide nonpartisan educational initiative. More Historical Society talks and exhibits will follow in the lead-up to July 4, 2026. For the full calendar, visit bocahistory.org/america250.
