These days magazines are almost always asked to “partner” with their advertisers on events, and we just had one that I loved. And I know why. This was co-hosted by Florida Builder Appliances which is just another name for stove porn. Kitchen envy. Convection heaven.

Yes, we had great chefs – Andy Trousdale, Carlos Fernandez, Oliver Saucy and Allen Susser – big names around here. And we benefited a great cause, Feeding South Florida. We also had a great turnout, excellent wines by Merryvale, chefs cooking for us, a chocolate fountain you could shower in.

But it was those kitchen showrooms that were dazzling everybody who came through the door. There I was standing by the Chardonnay – and this was GOOD Chardonnay – and my friend Arlene walks in, sails right past me and embraces a very expensive double oven ensemble. She was swooning.

I like parties in unusual environments, but this was a stroke of genius if I say so myself – to hold a food and wine tasting in a shimmering showroom of the most state-of-the-art kitchens money can buy. It was fun to hobnob with stainless steel and exotic woods, and it was great that so many people came out on a rainy night to grab a light bite and send a few bucks to a worthy charity. Now if we can just have the next one in a shoe store…
