The start of June kicks off Pride Month around the world, commemorating the Stonewall Riots in 1969 that marked the official start of the equality movement. While Palm Beach County celebrates Pride earlier in the year (Palm Beach Pride is during the much cooler month of March), there are still plenty of happenings around the community.

Take PRIDE!

Through June 30, Galleria Fort Lauderdale

The equality movement may be turning 55 this year, but the fight has been going on for much longer. History Fort Lauderdale’s exhibit at the Galleria Fort Lauderdale takes a look at the last 100 years of LGBTQ milestones, including the South Floridians who have made a difference in the arts, culture, business, media and politics. The free exhibit is near the Swarovski store and is open during mall hours. Visit historyfortlauderdale.org/archives/4374.

A Celebration of Pride

Through July 31, Historical Society of Palm Beach County

The museum is hosting not one, but two Pride exhibitions. “A Place for Pride” is a photo retrospective recounting Palm Beach County’s quest for equality, as well as national moments in history. “50 Years: The Stonewall Uprising” is in partnership with the Stonewall National Museum, Archives & Library in Fort Lauderdale and examines the climate before, during, and after the Stonewall uprising in 1969. The free exhibits are on the second floor of the 1916 Courthouse, 300 N. Dixie Highway in West Palm Beach. Visit pbchistory.org/celebrating-a-place-for-pride.

Stonewall “Inn” Stonewall

Through Sept. 15, Stonewall National Museum, Archives & Library in Fort Lauderdale

Take a step back in time when you walk through the doors of the Stonewall Museum. Here, they’ve re-created the Stonewall Inn on Christopher Street in New York City as it would have looked right before the first brick was thrown during the June 1969 uprising that forever changed the LGBTQ community. Then on June 29, there will be a reenactment of the event, which the public can participate in with a donation. For more information, visit stonewall-museum.org/stonewall-inn-stonewall.

Delray Beach Pride Festival & Concert

June 8, downtown Delray Beach

Downtown Delray Beach comes alive with all the colors of the rainbow with a festival from 4 to 7 p.m. at Northeast Second Avenue between Atlantic Avenue and Northeast Second Street. At 7:30 p.m., there will be dancing in the streets with live music at the Old School Square Pavilion (51 N. Swinton Ave.). Bands include the ukulele rock duo The Little Things and Taylor Swift tribute band Lovestory. Don’t forget to bring a chair (for when you need a break from all that dancing); food and beverages will be available for purchase. For more details, visit downtowndelraybeach.com/events/delray-beach-pride-fest-concert.

Stonewall Pride

June 15, Wilton Manors

This Broward County gayborhood is gearing up for a block party festival and parade down Wilton Drive. The block party runs for 3 to 11 p.m., with food, drink and arts vendors, and for the first time, the Pride parade will be in the evening at 8 p.m. For the Glow Night Parade, participants are encouraged to wear neon and glow-in-the-dark gear to light up the night with Pride. Tickets are $10 presale and $13 at the door; cashless entry. For more information, visit stonewallpride.lgbt.

Stonewall Ball

June 29, Downtown West Palm Beach Hilton

Compass GLCC’s annual soiree celebrates Love, Lights and Liberation, raising funds for the community center’s programs and operations. That includes services for people with HIV/AIDS, peer support groups, youth groups, free mental health services, cultural competency training, and more. The Stonewall Ball will be an evening of light bites and drinks, live entertainment, a silent auction and an awards ceremony. For more details, visit compasslgbtq.com/stonewallball.

Pride Health & Wellness Expo

June 8, Nancy M. Graham Centennial Square in West Palm Beach

The Night Runners West Palm Beach is hosting a free health expo in downtown West Palm Beach from 5 to 9 p.m. There, local businesses and nonprofits will share resources and information with the public. The running group is also hosting a (unfortunately) sold-out 5K run and walk.
