Shed some of those holiday pounds while supporting a great local cause at the Chiari Awareness 5k race on Sunday, Dec. 3. The race returns for its second year following the success of last year’s inaugural event which drew more than 400 participants and raised $50,000 to benefit the Bobby Jones Chiari & Syringomyelia Foundation.
The race was founded by 16 year-old Noah Forman, an award-winning athlete whose participation in contact sports was cut short when he was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation and Syringomyelia, two debilitating brain disorders, at the age of 12. Not one to remain idle, Forman discovered his passion for running and has since created the only 5K race in the country to benefit Chiari and similar brain diseases.
“Any event is a great way to show community support for those suffering from these diseases,” says Forman, “it just so happens that this event comes with a purple t-shirt and medal!”
Funds raised from the race will benefit the Bobby Jones Chiari & Syringomyelia Foundation and raise awareness for those suffering from Chiari, Syringomyelia, and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (rare diseases affecting the brain, spine, and connective tissue).
This year’s Chiari Awareness 5k race will take place at Sunset Cove Amphitheater at MaryLou Berger Pavilion, 20405 Amphitheater Circle, Boca Raton. Registration begins at 6:45 a.m. and costs $35, and the race begins at 7:30 a.m. Other activities include a one-mile kid’s walk for $15 and a free one-mile walk for those suffering from Chiari, Syringomyelia, and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. Registration for both begins from 8-8:45 a.m. and the walks begin at 9:00 a.m.
