After weeks of seemingly-nonstop developments as the coronavirus crisis has unfolded, the COVID-19 pandemic has continued to impact nearly every aspect of our lives. Restrictions to encourage social distancing are in place at the local and state levels, and South Floridians are hunkered down for what are undoubtedly the strangest Easter and Passover holidays in a very long time. Here are some of the most important updates from another week of life in the time of COVID-19.
- The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 continues to grow in Boca Raton and the surrounding areas. Boca Raton has nearly 250 confirmed cases, more than any other city in Palm Beach County.
- The City of Boca Raton issued an emergency order recommending the use of cloth face coverings by “every person working, living, visiting, or doing business” in the city. The city does not currently plan to issue citations to those not following the recommendation.
- Worship in the time of COVID-19 has proved to be especially difficult, as contradictory mandates from local and state governments make it difficult to discern what’s allowed and what isn’t.
- The Palm Beach County School District seemingly cancelled graduation ceremonies for public high schools before walking back its original statement.
- Boca Raton Regional Hospital CEO Lincoln Mendez spoke with City Watch writer Randy Schultz about the hospital’s preparations in the face of the growing COVID-19 pandemic.
- A student and teacher from Boca Raton Community High School have teamed up to start the #CoronaCant movement in an effort to promote positivity in the community.

- Two students from Saint Andrew’s School have developed and distributed their own hand sanitizer, and are donating the profits from the endeavor to local charities.
- The City of Boca Raton plans to resume city council meetings next week in a virtual capacity.
