As local food banks struggle to keep up with rising demands, the Florida Atlantic University College of Business is partnering with the Palm Beach County Food Bank to fight hunger in our community.
The “Pack to Give Back” Day offers a chance for volunteers to help in the fight against hunger by packing bulk food items that will be delivered to food-insecure households across Palm Beach County.
“Hunger affects far too many of our neighbors, including children and working families who are doing their best to make ends meet,” said Palm Beach County Food Bank CEO Jamie Kendall in a statement. “We are grateful to partner with Florida Atlantic University for Pack to Give Back, bringing students and community members together to turn compassion into action and ensure families across Palm Beach County have access to the food they need.”
The event will take place on Jan. 31 at the Sean Stein Pavilion at FAU’s College of Business. Volunteers can choose from two shifts, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 1 to 4 p.m., during which they will work in assembly line teams to weigh, sort and pack food. Volunteers can also opt to stay for the whole day. For more information and to sign up for a shift, click here.
In Palm Beach County, one in eight families struggle with food insecurity, with one in six children going to bed hungry nightly. The Pack to Give Back will support the Palm Beach County Food Bank’s Childhood Hunger initiatives, including its School Pantry Program and Weekend Meal Program.
