“Gourmet” food trucks have taken Miami by storm, and now they’re starting to truck on up our way.

PBC’s first home-grown truck, Curbside Gourmet, is now back in action after a few weeks off. And Rolling Stove and Porky & Beth’s can be found each weekend at Bedner’s Market in West Boynton.

Now, soon to stake out a claim in Broward and perhaps make some forays up to our little corner of paradise, is BC Tacos. The creation of local front-of-the-house-maven-turned-chef Brett Chiavari, BC Tacos will make its debut Wednesday, May 18, at a food truck rally at the Ed Morse Auto Mall in Sunrise, then move on to a regular lunchtime gig in Fort Lauderdale, at Cypress Creek and Powerline roads.

Chiavari’s tacos are a good-humored American take this Mexican culinary staple, with 10 different varieties as familiar as chicken, steak and fish and as whimsical as bacon cheeseburger, pulled pork and fried avocado. Four different house-made salsas are also offered.

For dessert, there’s even a s’mores taco, and for you Man vs. Food types, the Caveman Taco, which slips a burger patty, grilled steak and braised short rib between two halves of a crispy corn tortilla, then encases the whole thing in a flour tortilla with lettuce and cheddar cheese.

Prices are food truck cheap–$3 and $4—so even a Neanderthal can afford it.

NOTE: Don’t forget about this Wednesday’s Gourmet Food Truck Expo, when two dozen food trucks from Miami, Broward and even Palm Beach will pull into the Boomers entertainment complex (3100 Airport Blvd., Boca Raton) and dish up everything from hot dogs and tacos to pita wraps and ice cream.
