It’s almost here again, the signature women’s event of the year: the Junior League of Boca Raton’s 2010 Women Volunteer (WVOY) Of The Year luncheon, taking place on Friday, October 8, at the Boca Raton Resort & Club. To say this is big is like saying Renee Fleming has a good voice. This is a mega event that starts at 10:30 in the morning and manages to march through lunch and into mid-afternoon.

There is champagne, a fashion show, lots of hats and good suits and raffle tickets and a decibel level in the Mizner Center that rivals a rock concert. Imagine 1,000 or so women-most of whom know each other-brought together under one roof and trying to catch up with each other’s lives.

There are 31 nominees for various non-prorfit organizations recognized this year, and one will win the prestigious Women Volunteer of The Year award, now in its 23rd year. This is an event attended not only by who’s who in Boca-but by EVERYONE-at least all the women in town. And it just shows how incredibly big volunteerism and philanthropy is in our community; it is a powerful machine that drives this town and does wonderful work for many, many different organizations. This year’s presenting sponsor is the Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation, and Saks is doing the fashion show.

Tickets to this year’s event start at $85. Please contact 561/620-4778, ext. 2, for more information or visit jlbr/fundraisers/women_year.asp.
