A Delray Beach institution is closing its doors after three decades in business, to the shock of local foodies.

Granger’s Grille, known for its comfort food and cozy atmosphere, made the announcement on Facebook.

“This is not how we imagined things ending,” the team wrote on its Facebook page. “Unfortunately, due to the sale of our building we were left with no choice. As a family owned business this decision was not made by will, but by circumstance.”

Local foodies mourned the news, craving one last grilled cheese sandwich or blackened chicken sandwich. In fact, we included Granger’s in this year’s “50+ Things We Love in Delray” feature as a favorite for locals.

The restaurant first starting serving food in 1995.

“Though Granger’s Grille is closing, the spirit and heart of it will always live on with you. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you,” the post continues.

When asked by a fan if there were plans to reopen in another location, owner Marino Pagones replied on Facebook, “That’s the plan!”

We’ll be waiting for the return of a local legend.
