Boca Raton’s new 93,680-square-foot City Furniture and Ashley Furniture HomeStore superstore held its grand opening celebration Thursday, kicking off City Furniture’s regional expansion plan. The showrooms, located at 3350 Airport Road, represent the next-generation in store design for City Furniture, which is the licensee for the Ashley Furniture HomeStore brand.
With a host of “green” features”—from reclaimed cherry wood Hitchcock paneling and recyclable Amtico, to high-performing, low-emitting glass with automatic shades that conserve energy, rooftop solar tubes and LED lighting throughout—the top-selling furniture retailer is pursuing a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for the location.
“This opening is truly about sustainability—both economic and environmental,” says City Furniture president Keith Koenig. “Going forward, we’ll look to achieve LEED certification in every location where that’s doable.”
In addition to being more eco-friendly, the City Furniture and Ashley Furniture HomeStore destination features high-fashion displays, museum-quality finishes, a central café and a Kids’ FunZone for playing video games. Another highlight: architectural firm Garcia Stromberg took some design inspiration from neighboring Boca Raton Airport. While Ashley Furniture HomeStore’s roof channels an airplane wing, City Furniture’s roof is reminiscent of historic airplane hangars.
