On Jan. 19, the West Palm Beach Greenmarket will sponsor a Salsa Saturday competition between three vendors. This is where you are the winner, being able to taste the Latin cuisine-themed cook off dishes.

The cook off challenge starts at 10 a.m., and you can watch the chefs prep and cook their entries.

Robot Brewing hosts homebrew competition

Robot Brewing Homebrew Supply is hosting a people’s choice homebrew competition on Feb. 9. It’s open to the public and you should put it on your calendar. There are two reasons why: One is that you could discover some seriously good homebrewed beer, and it could be brewed by your neighbor, who knows?! The other reason is the award-winning, very seriously good Smokin’ Gator BBQ that will accompany this homebrewing competition at Robot Brewing Homebrew Supply. I know it will be one of your favorite BBQ meals, and you’re welcome.

For those who want to enter the homebrew bottle competition (different from the people’s choice), check out the guidelines on the Robot Facebook page. Entries need to be submitted by Feb. 3, so get brewing.

Uncle Mike’s spelling bee offered Tuesday nights

Every Tuesday, starting at 7 p.m., Crazy Uncle Mike’s will host a D-R-N-U-K spelling bee for customers. This is also the restaurant’s taco Tuesday, so you can pair one of the in-house beers with a pork belly, veggie, chicken or beef taco for $3.

The spelling bee has a $5 entrance fee, and that includes one beer for each round of the bee you make it through. There’s a trophy and a $50 bar tab as prizes. F-U-N.
