Do you ever feel embarrassed about your ears when you wear your hair in a ponytail? Maybe as a guy, you never liked to cut your hair short? Do you find yourself avoiding pinning your hair up because you think your ears stick out too far? If you have large or protruding ears, you might find it’s interfering with your everyday style. You might’ve even experienced bullying as a child.

Luckily, there’s a wonderful procedure known as otoplasty that helps reposition and reshape your ears so that you can wear your hair or hat any way you’d like. With an ear pinning procedure, you will finally be able to get that sexy short look you’ve always wanted. Protruding ears can really get you down but Dr. Ennis and his wonderful team can craft ears you’ll love to show off.

What Is Otoplasty?

Ear surgery, known as otoplasty, is a cosmetic ear procedure that helps restore symmetry to your ears and harmonious balance between your ears and your other facial features. If you’ve got ears that protrude far from your head or ears that are large or an abnormal shape, then otoplasty is the perfect solution.  If you had an ear defect that’s present at birth or one that occurred as a result of an injury, otoplasty can help repair and correct your damaged ear. Maybe you feel just your earlobes are too large and want an earlobe reduction.  Depending on your exact situation, you may need surgery on one or both ears. Since otoplasty is surgery on the outer part of the ear, it won’t negatively impact your hearing.

How It Works

Otoplasty is a safe and easy procedure but there are many variations in the sculpting of the ear. Most often, your surgeon will begin with an incision behind the ear and work with the folds or conchal bowl (the area that causes your ears to protrude) to establish a normal appearance. He may remove skin, rework your cartilage or pin your ears to the head to create a sexier more streamlined look. Once it’s in the perfect form, your ears will be held in place with internal, permanent sutures that won’t be seen on the outside. After surgery, you’ll have some bandages in place while your bruising and swelling subside, but you should be back to normal life after only three to five days. Recovery from otoplasty is very quick and you’ll love the results.

An earlobe reduction is even easier and often done under a local anesthesia while you are awake. So whether it is larger earlobes passed down to you by the family genetics or lobes that have stretched out over time from heavy earrings, the earlobes can be easily reduced. Most patients are out and about the next day!
