Dr. Michael Liss utilizes the latest advancements in dental technology and evidence-based techniques to deliver exceptional periodontal and implant care. Dr. Liss specializes in periodontal surgery with an emphasis on preserving natural teeth whenever possible, as well as gum recession treatment, periodontal plastic surgery, single and full-arch dental implants, and minimally invasive bone regeneration procedures.
Q: How do you treat gum recession?
A: I use the best documented technique, the tunnel oral periodontal plastic procedure. A tunnel is created inside the gum and then either autogenous or commercial tissue is inserted into that tunnel. Then, the graft and the tissues are lifted. Root coverage is achieved if bone loss is not too extensive.
Q: How can dental implant failures be treated?
A: If there’s more than 50 percent bone loss, the implant must be retrieved and usually there’s a need for bone augmentation. If less than 50 percent is left, depending upon where it’s located and whether the bone loss is horizontal or vertical, we apply minimally invasive techniques to save the implant.
Q: How has your specialization in bone reconstruction changed patients’ lives?
A: For patients who are told they are not candidates for implants due to insufficient bone volume, I focus on rebuilding lost bone so that implants can still be placed successfully. Whenever possible, I perform these procedures using growth factors to enhance healing and improve long-term outcomes.
