Brain Matters Research specializes in research and support for memory loss, with an emphasis on prevention and treatment for Alzheimer’s disease.

The center is under the direction of Principal Investigator, Cognitive & Behavioral Neurology Specialist, board-certified Dr. Paayal Patel, whose prestigious training includes Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and a UCNS-certifi ed fellowship in cognitive behavioral neurology.

“We see patients with age-related cognitive decline and bring them the most comprehensive current, ethical research in the area, providing holistic care- not by just addressing medical issues but also the emotional, social, and lifestyle factors that are involved,” explains Dr. Patel.

Q. What treatment options do you offer for memory loss?

A. Treatment options may include infusion, injections, oral medications, or even sometimes a device. These treatments are not cures, rather they are disease-modifying therapies which are geared towards slowing or halting the progression of the disease by targeting the actual underlying pathological process rather than the symptoms.

Q. What is the correlation between obesity and memory loss?

A. We off er weight loss solutions designed to reduce the risk of chronic disease, improve quality of life, and support mental well-being. Research on blood-based biomarkers suggests that obese individuals may experience up to 95 percent faster increases in Alzheimer’s-related biomarkers, indicating a potentially greater and more rapid accumulation of amyloid plaque in the brain.

Q. What is involved with the complimentary memory screening you offer?

A. The memory screening includes a cognitive health evaluation by a trained professional, a review of fi ndings and available options. It is not study-specifi c, and there is no obligation to join a trial. If you choose to participate in a clinical study, you may receive a research stipend for your time.
