Before Delray was Delray, there was the Seagate, the grande dame of boutique hotels in South Palm Beach County, with a history dating to the 1930s. With its Anglo/Caribbean-style shutters and balconies, this 154-room hotel boasts an architectural vintage but all the modern amenities: It was re-imagined first in the 1950s, then tech-ified in the new millennium. It is currently on the precipice of its next facelift: An enormous transformation by such renowned firms as landscape architect Raymond Jungles.
The renovation, which begins in May and will open in phases beginning in November, has made international news, landing in Vogue’s annual roundup of the 26 Most Anticipated New Hotel Openings.
Play Now, Renovate Later: In the meantime, the hotel remains open to the public with all of its perks: A famous country club and golf course designed by Joe Lee; a tennis and fitness center; an 8,000-square-foot spa with hotel pool, whirlpool, pool bar, tranquility room and steam room; and the Seagate’s longtime coup de grace, the Beach Club. This private encampment directly on the beach, available to hotel guests via a brisk walk or complimentary valet parking, features beachside beverage service, ocean-view dining, a saltwater swimming pool, and rental equipment from on-site vendor Delray Beach Water Sports.
Eat, Drink & Be Merry: While new dining experiences are in the works for the big reveal later this year, the Seagate’s anchor restaurant the Atlantic Grille remains open to hotel guests and the general public. Happy hour specials and a firepit lounge complement a coastal menu well-stocked with fresh-caught fare, from grilled octopus and roasted Atlantic salmon to scallops and branzino, with plenty of turf and vegetarian options to please any palate.
Let’s Make a Deal: Future guests can enter the promo code “Elvis” when booking through the Seagate’s website to receive a special package including 15-percent off the best available room rate, two Seagate beach towels, a daily continental breakfast for two at Atlantic Grille, and a one-time $50 resort credit.
The Seagate is located at 1000 E. Atlantic Ave., Delray Beach.
