Boca Raton has a budding sports dynasty in the unlikeliest of places-a senior life-care retirement community.
The St. Andrews South Strikers, the kingpins of virtual bowling, have done it again, capturing their third straight National NSL Ninendo Wii Bowling Championship. The Strikers made their way through the 120-team field (representing 29 states) before blasting a team from Belle Vernon, Pa., in the final.
Captain Joe Riccobene, age 77, and Duane Webster, 88, each rolled two perfect 300 games during the playoffs to lead the Strikers into the championship round.
In the final against the Fairhope Superstars, the Strikers-also featuring Joe DiMauro, 81, and Bob Spaulding, 89, on their four-man squad-stormed past the Pennsylvania team by scores of 928 to 852 and 783 to 725.
The team credits “charm, good looks, luck, prayer, practice and teamwork” for their run of success.
