They say “Starting the year on the right foot sets the tone for all the steps to come.” 2024 has gotten off to a fantastic start and we wanted to share a few highlights with all of you. From a stompin’ good time at Cowboy Ball to thought-provoking sports and wellness discussions, our community continues to come together to celebrate, engage and inspire. Here’s your roundup of society events for Spring! 

George Snow Scholarship Fund’s Cowboy Ball 

It was a boot-stomping, bling-filled evening of country-themed fun on March 2 at the Rhinestone Cowboy Ball Boots & Bling event benefiting the George Snow Scholarship Fund. The organization honored the Junior League of Boca Raton and Bonnie Halperin with the Fund’s prestigious Community Service Awards. George Snow Scholar Etzer Kenta Botes—who was raised in Belle Glade and went on to Harvard—delivered an impactful speech to the hundreds of supporters in attendance.

Best-selling author Elizabeth Gilbert served as keynote speaker for Mindful Boca 2024, the Peaceful Mind Peaceful Life Wellness Series at Boca Raton Regional Hospital’s Lynn Women’s Institute. Gilbert joined Peaceful Mind Peaceful Life co-founders Barb Schmidt and Michelle Maros at Lynn University’s Wold Performing Arts Center for an inspiring conversation about hope, love, creativity, spirituality and embracing the joyful spirit of adventure.

Run for the Ribbons

A great crowd pounded the pavement and came together as one for the 13th Annual Run for the Ribbons on Feb. 4 at the Lynn Cancer Institute. The 5K event benefits the League of Ribbons and patient enhancement programs at Lynn Cancer Institute. Cancer survivors and their family members also had the opportunity to paint new tiles that will soon be added to the Lynn Cancer Institute wall displays located throughout the building on the Boca Raton Regional Hospital Baptist Health South Florida campus. FAU Baseball Line Drive Luncheon: Coach John McCormack, Mickey Storey and FAU Baseball Team Members

Mickey Storey hit it out of the park. The former Houston Astros, Toronto Blue Jays and FAU Baseball pitcher was the keynote speaker for the 2024 FAU Baseball Line Drive Luncheon on Feb. 5 on the campus of FAU. Storey is the current manager for the Houston Astros Triple-A affiliate, the Sugar Land Space Cowboys. Play ball and support with the Paradise Club

James Hardie Pro Football Hall of Fame Invitational Coming Soon

James Hardie Pro Football Hall of Fame Invitational Celebration

Local leaders and sports greats gathered to announce the James Hardie Pro Football Hall of Fame Invitational will be coming soon to Boca Raton. The inaugural event will be hosted March 31 – April 6, 2025, at the Old Course at Broken Sound in Boca Raton. The tournament will feature a field of 78 PGA Tour champions competing for a purse of $2.2 million dollars. Playing alongside the Champions Tour players will be 26 football legends, who will tee it up on Friday and Saturday of the event. The three-day tournament will be televised on the Golf Channel.

Bacchus Beckons, held at the Addison on Feb. 22, served as the kickoff to the popular culinary event Boca Bacchanal. Attendees enjoyed unlimited samplings of gourmet bites and fine wines before the Boca Bacchanal Vintner Dinner pairings were announced (and I was honored to lead the exciting announcements!). Bacchus Beckons and Boca Bacchanal, Boca Raton’s biggest annual two-day wine and food event, benefit the Boca Raton Historical Society.

Champions for Children stepped onto the Saks Fifth Avenue Boca Raton runway with beautiful Cinq a Sept pieces and some fabulous friends to raise awareness and funds for Place of Hope in support of foster youth, single moms and others with no place to go. From glitz to glam, it was a night of purpose and joy at the Champions for Children Runway Show and Angel of Hope reception, sponsored by Dr. Leighan Rinker and chaired by Haley Winstead. The 2024 Champions for Children were Aaron Miller, Alfredo Suarez, Paige Kornblue, Allison Stewart, Charles Bender, Christy Hamilton, Itay Shimony, John Arscott, Lisa Inman-McDulin, and Teal Scott.
