Happening Tuesday: Lunches for first responders
When Plan A is thwarted, there’s always a Plan B. That’s what Future 6, a non-profit providing free flagship surf programs for children with special needs, faced when the virus forced everyone to stay at home.
On April 14, Future 6 is focusing on immediate needs, and that means pairing with popular Boynton Beach restaurant Driftwood to supply up to 500 meals for first responders.
There will be a drive-through, gourmet box lunch delivery set up at Driftwood, 2005 Federal Highway, Boynton Beach, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Boynton Beach first responders with a badge — both on and off duty — along with city officials and city employees can pull into the north entrance, grab a lunch from one of the volunteers, and exit out the south side of the restaurant safely.
Any meals that are left will be delivered to Bethesda Hospital for nurses and hospital staff on the front lines dealing directly with patients suffering from Covid-19.
Care packages can help, for adults or kids
Know someone who’s not feeling well while at home? Maybe parents, who have kids going stir-crazy? Here are some suggestions for care packages that can be left on doorsteps.
For adults: Gatorade, bone broth, soups for energy, crackers, bagels/cream cheese, assorted teas, apple cider, cough drops with eucalyptus or peppermint. Candles or oils with eucalyptus or peppermint help bronchial tubes to open. Vick’s Vapor Rub. Hot sweet/sour soup, Saltines, applesauce, bananas, mandarins/clementines. Include PH water, small bottles of acetaminophen, vitamin C, flavor ice popsicles, Epsom salt for baths. Treats for pets if appropriate.
For kids: Pedialyte, card games, puzzles, crosswords and books help pass the time.
