Web extra: Patrick Schroeder

Comedy trail: Local comedian Pat Schroeder began performing stand-up at age 15. At 21, he’s still one of the youngest comics in the South Florida scene. Most of his jokes

combine crass premises with intellectual conclusions, making him an aspiring voice in the world of alternative comedy.

Where to see him: He performs regularly at the Funky Buddha Lounge in Boca Raton and has opened for national performers such as Doug Benson and Rich Vos.

It’s hard to get a straight interview out of Schroeder. When asked how he became inspired to perform stand-up comedy, he said, “Once I found out Carrot Top was from South Florida, I got together a bunch of props and loaded them into a trunk and haven’t looked back since.”

Sample of Pat’s material: I went to the mall to buy a new hat, but the cheapest one they had was 25 dollars. I can’t bring myself to spend that much money on something that won’t get me high. A new hat is not going to make me forget all my problems and laugh at pictures of cats on the Internet for two hours.
