Stir things up with Shaken’s 32-bartender mixology contest
There are bartending contests, and then there’s Shaken. What’s called the “ultimate mixology contest” will start Aug. 29, with 32 South Florida bartenders competing in an 11-round single elimination contest—with mystery ingredients. Iron Chef, meet your liquid mate. Myschyf (a hemp-based, bright green liqueur that’s 70 proof) founders Garett Hagen and Drew Shprintz partnered with Bob Higginbotham (he of Bar Brawls contests), along with Rob Husted (Bar Wars LLC) to put Shaken on the calendar.
The opening part will be at Tiki ‘Ono (the bar on the Lake Worth pier) at 6 p.m.on Aug. 29.. Then for 11 weeks, the contest will continue at various venues throughout Palm Beach County. For the cherry on top of that Shaken cocktail, organizers say 50 percent of the ticket sales from Shaken events will benefit the No Kid Hungry campaign.

It’s an ice cream truck for adults: Hoffman’s Sweet Ride
If you have memories of racing out to the curb when the ice cream truck jingle sounded on your street, you may have to lace up your running shoes again. The adult version is here: Hoffman’s Chocolates launched a Sweet Ride truck, with an assortment of chocolate and confections, they say. That includes the chocolate-covered pretzel bites, chocolate-covered Graham crackers, coconut cashew crunch, gourmet caramel apples and more. Swing by the Sweet Ride truck Aug. 5 at 8 p.m. in Mizner Park at the screening of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” May the chocolate sauce be with you!
A la carte: Shop till you’re hungry on the upcoming tax-free weekend, and then stop to eat and get a deal, too. Tax-free weekend means kids eat free at Duffy’s locations, starting Aug. 5 through Aug. 7, when ordering from kids menu. The deal is one free meal per adult meal purchased.
